A Google Voice™ Client for the Mac
GrowlVoice is a lightweight menubar app that links securely with your Google Voice account to notify you and allow you to respond to new text messages, voicemails, and missed calls.
GrowlVoice lets you:
Compose texts and place calls in seconds
Quickly read and reply to text messages
Listen to voicemails and read their transcripts
Get Instant notifications of new messages
While Google Voice already has a great website, it's severely lacking in its ability to notify you of new messages and let you quickly reply to them. GrowlVoice fixes that.
GrowlVoice quickly notifies you of new messages and provides an easy and intuitive interface for replying to and reading them. You can initiate calls, send texts, and read voicemails all within a couple of clicks. You'll never have to fumble with texting on your phone's tiny keyboard or constantly refresh the Google Voice website while you're at your computer again.
Text messages
Composing a Text
To compose a text message with GrowlVoice, all you have to do is click on the GrowlVoice menu icon, and select "Compose Text" from the menu. An unobtrusive dropdown window will appear, providing you with a simple interface to quickly send a text message. A built-in character counter counts the number of 160-character SMSes the text will consist of.
Replying to a Text
When you receive a reply to one of your texts, GrowlVoice will notify you via either a Growl notification or an unobtrusive dropdown window. To reply to the text message, simply click on the notification. GrowlVoice will display a dropdown window that lets you read the past messages in the conversation and send a reply.
Calling
Placing a call
Placing a call with GrowlVoice is a lot like composing a text. Simply click on the menu icon, and select "Place Call". A dropdown similar to the text composition window will show, allowing you to enter a phone number or search for a contact. Once you've entered the number you want to call, just select the phone for Google Voice to use to place the call, and press "Call".
Calling with Google Chat
If you've added your Google chat account to your Google Voice phones, you can place calls without even picking up a phone. Just open up Gmail in your browser, and place a call with GrowlVoice, selecting "Google Talk" from the "Call with Phone" menu. When you place your call, it will be dialed right from a chat popup in your Gmail window.
Voicemails
Listening to and Reading Voicemails
When you receive a new voicemail, GrowlVoice will notify you via a notification. To read the voicemail, simply click on the notification. In the voicemail dropdown window, you can listen to the voicemail and read the transcript. If Google Voice hasn't finished transcribing the voicemail yet, GrowlVoice will update the transcript until is has.
